Being a member of Soroptimist International gives the possibility to access the world in a different way. There is a flow of information from all over the world via “The Link”, the magazine of the European Federation (SIE), and the “Global Voice” newsletter prepared by the head organization. There are many (inter)- national events, some of them are highlighted here.
Let’s start in Spain, the Spanish Soroptimists get together once a year, a great way to meet old and new friends, work together and discuss how to extend in Spain, a meeting is always accompanied by a tourist visit in town and a taste of local food and drinks.
The members have been travelling together to International meetings in Glasgow, Amsterdam, Montreal, Berlin, Istanbul, Florence, Marrakesh and Kuala Lumpur always taking away knowledge about important themes, ideas for new projects and activities and even more important new friends and contacts to work together in the future.
The European Federation organises a congress every 4 years with interesting speakers and workshops. The next event will take place in Krakow in the summer of 2021. The next SI Convention is not too far away, in 2023 in Dublin.
Last Summer a delegation went to the SI Convention in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where over a thousand Soroptimists came together, listening to fabulous international speakers like journalist Christina Lamb. The president of our club Aura had the honour of carrying the Spanish flag and saluting the queen of Malaysia. During the Friendship Night we danced with women from all over the world. What a way to charge the batteries and get inspired to continue the work, improving the lives of women and girls!
